The vision of a fully automated recycling center

Digitalization does not stop at recycling depots, as a digitalization congress in Schwaz, organized by ATM Abfallwirtschaft Tirol Mitte, impressively demonstrated. The sensis+wiegon competence cluster presented its digital innovations as one of the key speakers.

Over 150 participants, including representatives from local authorities and waste associations from Tyrol to Lower Austria, Bavaria to North Rhine-Westphalia, learned about innovative technologies and new approaches to improving transparency, sustainability and efficiency in waste management. sensis+wiegon presented its solutions for digitalized recycling depots in Austria and Germany as a keynote speaker. The Jenbach recycling center, one of the most modern in Europe and digitized by sensis+wiegon, was visited as an outstanding example.

Recycling center of the future

The German-Austrian competence cluster sensis+wiegon has the most advanced system for the digitalization, automation and control of recycling centres in Europe. At the conference, Bernhard Weiskopf (wiegon) and Margit Klinken (sensis) explained how waste disposal can be realized independently of time and personnel. “Our vision is for everyone to be able to dispose of their waste at any time and in any place, thereby increasing the service and thus the recycling rates,” the two emphasized.

The sensis+wiegon system for the recycling center of the future includes all relevant functions: from automatic license plate recognition at the barrier to waste registration at self-service terminals via app. In the event of incorrect disposal, citizens are informed on their next visit. Users of the app also have real-time insight into the quantities of waste disposed of and the fees incurred.

Over 50 municipalities already rely on the innovative system and have made over 3 million bookings. Numerous projects in Austria and Germany are currently being implemented. You can find an overview of the references here.
