Kaunertal installs autonomous waste collection stations

Citizens can dispose of organic waste and tree and shrub cuttings autonomously at any time

The municipalities of Kauns, Kaunerberg and Kaunertal of the Kaunertal Recycling Association have introduced a new and progressive service for their citizens. From now on, it is possible to drop off organic waste at an autonomous collection point around the clock. Citizens can identify themselves either with their citizen card or the Wiegon app. They dispose of their organic waste independently, and the exact weight is recorded and transmitted directly to the respective municipalities. With the help of the Wiegon citizen app, citizens have an overview of the quantities disposed of at all times. This innovative and modern service is very popular with everyone involved.

Technical details

The autonomous drop-off point is a stationary facility equipped with the Wiegon access system. This system is used to control the electrical opening of an access flap. The collection point consists of a Wiegon Lite terminal and a stainless steel shoring with integrated scales for standard 4-wheel containers from 660 liters to 1100 liters. The autonomous collection point can be used to collect different types of waste.

By using commercially available 4-wheel containers, the filled containers can be emptied using any collection vehicle with a comb-type body. In addition to recording and transmitting the collected weights per citizen, the system is also equipped with weight monitoring so that the mass of the collection container can be viewed online. SMS alerts at 50% and 100% complete the function. The container is replaced via the back of the shoring. The collection point can also be equipped with video surveillance.
