Fire protection plays a crucial role in waste management - especially at recycling centers, where rapid detection of fire hazards can make the difference between damage and safety. Incorrect throwing and improper disposal are increasingly leading to fires, which can spread rapidly and cause immense damage.

To counteract this problem, wiegon is currently working with its partner fiegl&spielberger to develop an innovative system for early fire detection. The first tests at the digital recycling center in Ischgl were extremely promising: even the smallest temperature increases and sources of fire could be reliably detected from a great distance.

How does the technology work?

The new system is based on special cameras that simultaneously provide optical and thermal images. This combination allows information to be processed in real time, enabling optimum early fire detection. As soon as a critical temperature deviation or a source of fire is detected, the system automatically triggers a signal to the wiegon control center. There, experts can check the cause via camera monitoring and take immediate action if necessary. Thanks to 24/7 monitoring, this alarm is not only triggered manually, but can also be forwarded automatically.
