Wiegon - Der autonome Wertstoffhof

Smart and efficient

Der autonome Wertstoffhof

In a world that is increasingly focusing on sustainability and resource conservation, digitalization plays a key role in making processes more efficient and environmentally friendly. As one of the leading companies in the field of digitalization and automation in waste management, wiegon has developed a pioneering solution: the autonomous recycling centre.

A new concept for an old challenge

Traditional recycling centers face numerous challenges: Irregular capacity utilization, high personnel costs, unclear separation of recyclables and long waiting times for citizens are just some of the problems that are frequently mentioned. wiegon has set itself the task of solving these weak points with an intelligent, fully automated system. The autonomous recycling centre offers an innovative platform that revolutionizes the entire recycling process. By using the latest technologies, such as automated control and monitoring, the system enables efficient and user-friendly disposal.

The core technologies of the autonomous recycling center

The control center
The control center enables the monitoring and control of all processes at the recycling center - both on-site and off-site. The ability to control and optimize processes remotely creates maximum flexibility. From user access to the separation of recyclables, all processes can be coordinated in real time. This central control system not only ensures efficiency and security, but also enables access to the site outside of opening hours without the need for staff presence.

Digital user guidance
Citizens can use the recycling center around the clock. The disposal process is guided step by step - either via an intuitive app or a user-friendly terminal on site. Registration for 24/7 access takes place via a digital portal, where citizens log in and receive binding instructions on how to use the autonomous recycling center. These must be accepted when registering. A particular advantage is that autonomous 24/7 access authorization can be revoked in the event of improper disposal or misconduct. In practice, it has been shown that this multi-level authorization system leads to significantly better separation behavior and further improves recycling rates. This ensures that the autonomous recycling center is used efficiently and properly.

Resource-saving operating models
The elimination of on-site personnel outside opening hours makes operation more cost-efficient. Maintenance and service work can be planned in a targeted manner based on the system's real-time data.

Data-based optimization
The wiegon system collects data on usage frequency, recyclable material flows and capacity utilization. This information enables continuous optimization of operational processes and provides valuable insights for municipal waste management.

Advantages for municipalities and citizens

Round-the-clock availability
Citizens can dispose of recyclables regardless of opening hours

Higher recycling rates
User-friendly processes and 24/7 access ensure that more citizens can dispose of their recyclables correctly and promptly. This leads to improved separation and optimal use of recycling capacities.

Cost savings and increased efficiency
Local authorities benefit from reduced operating costs without compromising on service quality. In practice, there is potential to increase efficiency by 30-50 percent.

Future viability
The system is scalable and can be flexibly adapted to the needs of the respective municipality. It is also possible to link several autonomous recycling centers to form a network solution easily and efficiently.

Practical experience

The first projects with autonomous recycling centers in Austria show that the system works excellently in practice. The experiences of operators, employees and citizens have been consistently positive: operators report more efficient processes and noticeable cost savings. Employees can concentrate on value-adding activities, while routine tasks are automated. Citizens appreciate the high flexibility and user-friendliness of the system, which enables uncomplicated disposal around the clock.

The combination of automation, digitalization and user-centric design ensures that everyone involved benefits from this innovative solution.

wiegon as an innovation leader

The autonomous recycling center is a prime example of the conceptual approach that characterizes wiegon. Our aim is not only to optimize existing processes, but also to transform waste management in a sustainable way. With our unique digitalization concept, we create solutions that are both ecologically and economically convincing. The first pilot projects with autonomous recycling centers in Austria are already showing promising results. For wiegon, this is just the beginning. Our aim is to work with local authorities and partners to establish nationwide solutions that will lead waste management into a sustainable and efficient future.

We would be happy to advise you personally and work with you to develop the right digitalization concept for your individual requirements. Let's shape the waste management of tomorrow together!

„The system works very well and we are satisfied with the residents' morale about waste separation. Switching to the new system meant an initial extra effort from our side, but we are now more familiar with the technology and proud to be able to use it.
Customers can now do many things on their own, which give us more time to focus on other things. Even when our shift is over and we go home, residents can still come in and drop off their waste.“
